water.

that allows estimation of the weight of a fish by
measuring its length and girth.
- On Saturday July 2. 2011 club members
along with the Boy Scouts from North Bay met at the

outdoor recreation go to Earth Day.
- Our new hatchery has been
given a 911 address (but no mailbox): 8522
Millpond Way, McConnellsville, NY in case of emergencies.
- On Saturday, March 12 water levels rose in
area streams and flooding resulted due to the snow
melting and rain. Water levels reached to the bottom of
our tanks. Club members worked on Sunday to secure
the tanks. Infant mortality of eggs and alvin are
light as expected so far.
- On Wednesday February 9, 2011 about 60,000
eyed Atlantic salmon eggs were placed in tanks at our new
hatchery at the Harden Dam in McConnellsville, NY.
- On January, 16, 2011 cold
temperatures were prevalent and the water froze in the
pipes and tanks. Club members met on an ad-hoc basis to
restore water flowing through the tanks and to winterize
the space to prevent another freeze-up.
- In the Fall of 2010 Harden
Furniture began work on building a structure to
house the club's hatchery. Regulations did not
allow for building in the flood plain below the dam
so as an alternative, it was decided that a roof over the
sluice way would suffice. On November 19, 2010 a
meeting was held with Harden and the final approval was
granted. Employees of Harden Furniture then
proceeded to build the roof over the sluice way.
During December, 2010 and January, 2011 club
members met at the site, installing the tanks and the
necessary plumbing.
In Appreciation
The club is very thankful for Harden Furniture's help in
building a new hatchery on the West Branch of Fish Creek.
The club also appreciates Spey Nation for contributing the profits of their
raffle to the Fish Creek Atlantic Salmon Club. Spey Nation
held their third stream side seminar on the Salmon River at the
Pineville bridge parking area on Saturday, June 19, 2010.
And lastly, the club is grateful for the continuing support
of fellow sportsmen, without which the club would not be able to
continue with our efforts to restore Atlantic salmon to their
native waters.
Click here for information of Spey Nation's next stream side seminar.
Please Note:
The club has a speakers program. We would be glad to
make a presentation at a meeting or an event sponsored by your
group. Please contact Paul Miller at 315 337-4079 or e-mail pmiller3825@yahoo.com .
Objective of the Club
The Fish Creek Atlantic Salmon Club, inc was formed in
1997 for the purposes of:
- Restoring/re-introducing native Atlantic
salmon and Brook Trout to Fish Creek and the Oswego River
system as self sustaining species.
- Cooperate with federal, state and local
agencies to maintain and restore habitat critical to fish
restoration including water quality, substrate quality,
riparian condition, and adequate fish passage throughout
the system.
- Collaborate with other groups,
organizations, watershed stake-holders in order to
exchange information and minimize duplication of effort.
The objective of the club is to develop a coordinated,
informed and supportable restoration effort for Atlantic salmon
in the Oswego River system, using the best available technology
and science with participation by interested individuals, Native
Americans, non-profit, governmental and non-governmental agencies
and groups. For more information on the club contact one of the
club's officers.
